Accidents happen. Even the most careful drivers end up in accident and many times, there is no way to avoid them. If you are in a car accident that was caused by another driver, you are entitled to compensation as a result of any harm caused. Damages can include medical bills, cost to repair your vehicle, lost wages, pain and suffering, etc.
After an accident, many people are disoriented and/or injured. The first rule is always to make sure everyone is safe and to seek assistance if needed. However, when possible I would make the following recommendations:
-If the accident is minor, try to move the vehicles out of the way.
-Call the police and report the accident, wait at the scene for the investigating officer.
-Take pictures of the accident scene, including multiple angles of all the vehicles involved. (Once retained our office will track down the cars and if possible take pictures, if you haven’t already)
-Make sure you get a copy of the FR-10 (preliminary report including information about the incident and drivers). This form needs to be sent to your insurance company right away.
-You should write down the names and telephone numbers for any witnesses.
-If you are injured, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, our office offers free consultations for car accident victims. We can help you obtain compensation for the damages caused.
